This documentary is based on the book music in the age of the pyramids, the product of more than twelve years of research carried out by the musicologist and orchestral conductor rafael pérez arroyo with the collaboration of the molecular biologist syra bonet, who has a scholarly interest in the philosophy and thinking of antiquity. The work offers a global approach to ancient egypt through the fundamentals of its philosophical, theological and conceptual thought and of its art and literature. Ancient egyptian music, within its particular scientific, religious and cosmological context, opens the door for us towards a better understanding of how this fascinating civilisation arose in the third millennium bc and influenced both the east and the west.
In the documentary we make a journey to ancient egypt through the reconstruction of its music, with previously unpublished images and with both actual and virtual reconstructions. Music and musicians link together one of the most fascinating investigations of recent years – one that offers spiritual contact with ancient egypt, with those men and women who lived in the age of the pyramids, and all accompanied by original texts in the ancient egyptian language.
