Shark Mistakes 1 x 45
Wild life2006

Though we call our planet the Earth, if we look at it from out in space we can see it should more rightly be called “Planet Water” or the “Blue Planet”, because approximately 71% of the world’s surface is covered by water. The volume of this colossal mass of liquid is some 1,400 million cubic kilometres, of which 97% is in the oceans.

A vast home for a very varied fauna; an underwater universe teeming with life. And, among that fauna, an abundant group of fish, with over 370 species in total - the much-feared and hated sharks, which emerge, menacing, from the depths. Varying in size from 15 centimetres to over 13 metres, they live in all the waters of the planet.

The shark is perfectly designed. In almost 400 million years, virtually nothing of its essential nature has changed, and so they have survived to this very day, the supreme predators of the seas. The tiger shark and the white shark are the most dangerous sharks for man and are responsible for almost 80% of attacks on people worldwide. These two species will be the central subject of this documentary, which includes sequences reflecting never-before-seen aspects of the behaviour of the two most threatening and aggressive species.

This documentary highlights the interaction between man and shark, seeking to eradicate the widespread idea of an evil devourer of men. We will demonstrate that, though they are aggressive, curious and opportunistic, they do not deserve their unfair image as merciless killers.

We will show, step by step, how a risky expedition is prepared to dive among the most aggressive sharks on the planet and how it is possible to get very close to these dangerous animals in the sea. And we will observe a group of intrepid divers who, without protective cages and defying the dark of night, when the tiger shark is at its fastest and most dangerous, enter their territory to relate an experience that only five people had previously managed to undertake.

A camera/lure on the surface will also enable us to enter the jaws of the sharks and, literally, explore their awesome dentures and impressive throats...

And we will observe, very close up, the impressive and terrible great white shark.

In short, a documentary that reveals what the most ferocious marine hunters are truly like.
