The Knights of the Great Savanna 1 x 52’
Ethnology, Anthropology1999

Guided by Wasangari princes, the Baribá warriors from Nigeria invaded Borgou, the northern part of modern-day Benin. They conquered the Batonu villages and cornered dozens of tribes.

The Baribá knights riding their harnessed horses over the vast Savanna offer an unusual and unknown image of Africa which brings to mind the knights of Mediaeval tournaments. Following their tracks, we have discovered mysterious, magical rituals ; we have entered the courts of traditional kings who still hold princesses captive ; and we have cohabited with the most archaic tribes inhabiting the deepest ravines of the Atacora mountain chain such as the Gurmanche and the enigmatic Somba, buffalo hunters who eat their dogs after sacrificing them at the walls of their tatas, their fascinating fortresses.
